Blog Review

 Creating this blog was a very different experience to the class wiki. The blog felt more personal, as it was my choice what to add. Where as the wiki was more a collaboration with class mates. Having said that a blog could also be collaborative if editing privileges are given to other people in your team or work place.

A social networking site such as Facebook would be a well suited type of social media for a public library to use to keep members up to date, as it is fast and to the point. Information can be given quickly and succinctly, especially if you follow a page. Central Coast Council has recently adopted various Facebook pages targeted at various groups who use the library to engage and communicate with Council and each other via these groups. Not all patrons use facebook though, especially the elderly. The Library website is probably the most used form of social media being used by members at the moment and is good at informing the public of upcoming events and activities, it also is the point of contact to find out what library services are available, opening times and locations of branches. Members are also notified via email newsletter which is sent at regular times and as needed so members are kept in the loop especially during Covid as to changes in services and entry conditions which have been changing often.

A library blog may be a useful way to communicate with the public in a more indepth and informal or relaxed way. Posting features on topics of interest relating to libraries, such as Book week (what is happening in each branch), book award winners, photos of events that have happened, popular authors and genres, links to tutorials on crafts or how to use the library facilities (self checker, scanner, photocopier, access eresources etc..) and diary entries on branch goings on, behind the scenes.
